Jean's Farm Journal

After no snow last year, we are getting more than enough so far this year. It is beautiful but more work for us--cleaning up the snow & feeding the animals.

Emu egg

Not really the best time to be laying eggs (only 20 right now) but Gert is laying now. She will lay eggs for awhile & at some moment Bert (yes Bert is a male) will decide to set on the eggs. This is tricky business for us to know when to stop taking the eggs out of the pen. If left in the pen the egg freezes & of course breaks. Gert has laid 3 eggs so far. She seems to lay an egg about every 2 to 3 days. Some times I put the eggs back in but I don't think they ever hatch.
